Today is Small Business Saturday! According to BBC News, customers are being “urged to ‘shop small’ to help independent traders”. This is the third year that the Day has run, and according to the BBC piece, “last year UK traders took £504m on the day from an estimated 16.5 million people – a 20% increase in footfall on 2013”.
IcyHandmade is clearly a small business – it’s just me! I’ve been operating since 2013, making handmade jewellery and knitwear with a focus on quality goods at the sorts of prices you might see in Accessorize. It’s not always been easy, and trying to differentiate yourself can be tough, especially when a potential customer can just go into Primark and pick up a scarf for £3.
I appreciate that a lot of buyers are counting the pennies in the run up to Christmas, so I’ve created a coupon for my Etsy store. I’m offering 20% off everything until tomorrow, with the discount code SAT20.
If you’re in Australia or New Zealand, I need to post your goods by Thursday 10 December for you to get them in time for Christmas.
For Canada and the USA, it’s Tuesday 15 December.
For the UK, it’s Monday 21 December!
